Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of older people?
At You Matter Community Project CIC, we believe that no one should feel alone. We are looking for dedicated Volunteer Community Support Workers to help us tackle isolation and build a stronger, more connected community in Medway.
This is a hands-on, heart-centered role where you will be the bridge between isolation and companionship for local seniors.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Creating Connections: Organising and leading engaging group activities in our community hall (e.g., coffee mornings, crafts, or light exercise).
• Providing a Helping Hand: Accompanying older members to medical appointments or essential errands to ensure they get there safely and confidently.
• Nourishing the Community: Assisting with our food bank operations, from sorting donations to distributing essentials.
• Being a Friend: Offering vital companionship, whether through a chat over tea or a walk in the park, to help reduce the impact of loneliness.
Qualifications
• Background Check: Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS check (as you will be working with vulnerable adults).
Education
• No specific formal qualifications are required; however, a basic understanding of health and safety or safeguarding is a plus.
Mobility
• Access to a vehicle and a clean driving license is preferred (for attending appointments), but not essential if you are confident using local public transport.
Experience
• People-Facing Roles: Previous experience in care, community work, or customer service is beneficial.
• Lived Experience: We highly value individuals who have experience caring for family members or who have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the elderly.
• Volunteering: A history of volunteering or community involvement is a great advantage.
Skills
• Empathy & Patience: The ability to listen deeply and treat our members with dignity and respect.
• Communication: Strong verbal communication skills to interact with members, healthcare providers, and the team.
• Organisation: Reliability is key—our members will look forward to your visits and activities!
• Proactive Attitude: A "can-do" approach to helping out in the food bank or setting up the community hall.
Why Join Us?
By volunteering with You Matter Community Project CIC, you aren’t just giving your time; you are giving someone their confidence back. You’ll join a supportive team, meet wonderful people, and gain valuable experience in the social enterprise sector.
Help us prove to our community that they truly matter.
